Mt. Airy Celtic Festival 2012

Saturday, May 12th from 10 to 6, I joined the festivities at the Celtic Festival. Our family had attended the first Frederick Celtic Festival 12 years ago at the Betty Cramer house on Route 26. This 12th year they expanded their space at the Mt. Airy Fair Grounds. Men pulled out their kilts and bagpipes. There was an instrumental group with one bagpiper holding his own among 3 drummers, and a woman on bongos; their ┬ámusic was awesome! Each man had different strokes of face paint. There was Celtic dancing on stage… a Scottish tap dance. There were highland games. I watched burly men lift a “telephone pole” and they ran with it and tossed it. The goal was for it to flip over when it landed. All contenders were professional athletes. The 4th contender that I watched achieved the feat.

There was also a dog event with Westies chasing a tail. There were many 180 pound Irish Wolfhounds and some breeds that were new to me. My booth was for pet portraits. I am currently working on a Havenese that I met at the festival.

A picture is worth a thousand words. I will let the photos speak for themselves. Looking about you would think that you were in the Lord of the Rings. It was an awesome day. Katrina and Abigail (my daughter and her best friend) were delightful company.
